as an antidote to all the hitchens hagiography going around (“an intellectual giant!” “he could drink more than anybody!” “he was writing his last column fifteen minutes before he died!”), i suggest we all settle back with a little rupert sheldrake and remind ourselves that spiritual belief does not necessarily preclude honest scientific inquiry, just as it is entirely possible to be an atheist without being a total dick about it
