No, I’m not watching the State of the Union or the Republican debates. I don’t have time, energy or interest for that crap.
That said, brosephstalin’s liveblogging of the SOTU is quite amusing. I appreciate you watching it so I don’t have to, comrade.
Of course, the Republicans are gonna say racist, sexist, queer-bashing and dumbshit things. And they should be confronted and protested.
Of course, Obama “No Drama” is gonna talk about higher education, mention women’s rights, and say ah-ah-ah to Big Business (without ever committing himself to anything). The Democrats should be confronted and protested too.
If the emergence of the Occupy movement showed anything, it is that there is a basis to mobilize people independently and ECLIPSE the fatal two-party electoral trap that is, in many ways, the greatest political obstacle to the class struggle in the U.S.
And it needs to be done in a way that is not falling into the racist trap that alienates the African American community, who are disappointed, angry, but understandably defensive about stupid personal attacks on Obama, like the white folks who went to Harlem last week carrying signs comparing him to Hitler.
That’s what we should be talking about, fighting to build on. Not obsessing about what bullshit the mainstream candidates are shoveling today, next week or next month.
Dear radicals who can’t let go of the “lesser” evil:
There’s little reason to fear Obama’s defeat in November. Why would the ruling class want to get rid of him? He’s doing a bang up job for them. He just pulled off a huge constitutional coup with the NDAA. He’s kept the lid on the labor movement while coordinating the localized repression against Occupy. He destroyed Libya and is poised to attack Syria and Iran. And if things really go south, they’ll have a Black man to blame it on. It’s a win-win for them.
End of rant. For now.
